In Brief
Lord Rochester

Information
One of Vic Galloway's (BBC Radio Scotland and Radio 1) 50 Scottish artists to watch in 2010

Lord Rochester formed to perform at London’s Jazz Café as a replacement for the late (and unfortunately at the time, sick) Bo Diddley, to supply a show of covers for those who had already bought tickets. Eventually the show was pulled for an unknown reason and the trio were left with a stunning set and nowhere to play.

The problem was quickly remedied as they performed in the Spiegeltent at the Edinburgh Festival. This led to a residency in Henry’s Cellar Bar in Edinburgh and they started working on new songs for a proposed album. Gigs soon followed in Glasgow, London, Brussels, Spain and Rotterdam as more and more songs were added to the repertoire.

Their debut album, entitled HEY!, released in June 2009, contains 13 original songs written by the trio. A single, Hey Little Jermyn, is out now on Queensberry Records.

"Lord Rochester are a breath of fresh air ... Not since King Kurt have I heard a band with such a complete understanding of what constiutues rock n' roll, and then also had the ability to playfully subvert it, while remaining within the genre." Review of HEY!, UK Rock Magazine, July 2009
